SUMMARY:'My Ocean' afternoon tea with the Irish Ocean Literacy Network
DESCRIPTION:Connecting with the older generation to share stories\, memories and poetry highlighting what the ocean means to them. This event falls under the theme of cultural heritage at risk. Exploring how our relationship with the ocean may differ from one generation to the next. \nMy Ocean is a new all-island campaign inviting you to share your personal connection to the ocean. Whether it’s a place of work\, memory\, inspiration or adventure\, your story matters. Together\, we’re building a living digital archive of voices that celebrate Ireland’s deep relationship with the ocean. \nWe are hosting an event at Friends of the Elderly Dublin. We want to learn what the ocean means to the people on the island of Ireland through sharing our lived experiences\, poetry\, written pieces and songs. The day will start with an introduction to the Irish Ocean Literacy Network and our My Ocean campaign. We will then hear from members of the Friends of the Elderly community about their memories of the ocean and what the ocean means to them. We encourage you to come join us for some coffee and cake\, and contribute to our growing understanding of our ocean heritage. \n  \nDetails: \n\n20 August\, 12pm – 2pm\n\n\nFriends of the Elderly\, 25 Bolton Street Dublin 1\, Dublin\, D01 V6H9\n\n  \nThis event is part of a project supported under the Heritage Council’s grants programme in 2026
