SUMMARY:Fair Seas Conference 2026
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, 3 June 2026\, Fair Seas will return to Cork City Hall to host the second Fair Seas Conference\, kicking off World Ocean Week 2026. \nThe decisions made in the coming years will shape the health of our ocean for generations\, and this conference is an opportunity to be part of that conversation. \n  \nWhat to Expect on 3 June 2026\nThe 2026 programme will build on the foundations of 2023 while looking firmly ahead to the practical delivery of Marine Protected Areas in Ireland. The overall conference theme is clear: Exploring how Ireland can effectively and collaboratively deliver well-managed Marine Protected Areas\, informed by global experience and grounded in governance and stakeholder realities. The day will unfold across four sessions: \n  \nSession One: Marine Protection and Restoration – A Global Perspective.\nWe begin by situating Ireland’s journey within the wider international context\, exploring global leadership\, initiatives and lessons from jurisdictions that have moved from commitment to implementation. \n  \nSession Two: From Designation to Delivery: Making Marine Protected Areas Effective.\nDesignating areas is only the first step. This session will showcase the international best practice examples of MPAs\, highlighting the practical principles and approaches that enable effective marine protection. \n\n\nSession Three: Stewardship\, Governance and Marine Protection.\nLinking global perspectives on ocean guardianship with practical pathways for implementation in Ireland\, this session will explore the governance structures\, collaborative models and institutional roles that can support the effective designation and long-term management of MPAs. \n\n\nSession Four: Shared Seas – Stakeholder Perspectives.\nThis closing session will reflect on the themes and lessons emerging throughout the day\, exploring practical considerations\, collaborative pathways and the potential benefits of well-managed MPAs in Ireland. \n  \nThere will be expert presentations\, panel discussions bringing international perspectives alongside Irish experience\, and dedicated time for networking and cross-sector conversation. \nAbove all\, we are once again creating a space to strengthen relationships\, surface practical solutions and ensure marine protection works for both nature and people. \nThe conference will take place in the stunning surroundings of Cork City Hall\, overlooking Cork Harbour – a fitting backdrop for a conversation about our shared ocean future. \n  \nBooking details\n\n Cork City Hall\nWednesday\, 3 June 2026\n9:30 am – 5:00 pm\nTickets start from €75 for students and civil society. Online participation is also available.

SUMMARY:8th ICASE World Conference on Science and Technology Education
DESCRIPTION:The 8th ICASE World Conference on Science and Technology Education will take place from 22–25 June 2026 at University College Cork (UCC) — bringing a global community of educators\, researchers\, and policymakers to Ireland. \nThis prestigious international conference\, organised by the International Council of Associations for Science Education (ICASE)\, will explore key themes in science and technology education\, including sustainability\, innovation\, and global collaboration. Among its many strands\, one stands out as particularly significant for Ireland and the IOLN: the Marine Science Education (MSE) Strand. \nA key highlight of the conference will be the launch of the Ocean Literacy: The Foundation for the Success of the Ocean Decade book series\, an endorsed Ocean Decade activity that brings together global expertise on advancing society’s relationship with the ocean. \nThe three-volume\, open-access series — featuring contributions from hundreds of authors across dozens of countries — explores the critical role of Ocean Literacy in transforming education\, research\, community engagement\, and policy\, while supporting the goals of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. \nThe IOLN is featured in Chapter 15 of Volume III of this series. Open Access for this Chapter was funded by the Government of Ireland through the Department of Climate\, Energy and Environment – for which we are very grateful. \nAcross four days\, the Marine Strand will feature: \n\nInspiring keynote presentations from international leaders in Ocean Literacy\nA diverse programme of talks\, lightning presentations\, and poster sessions\nOpportunities to share research\, best practice\, and innovative approaches to marine education\nNetworking and collaboration across sectors and disciplines\n\n  \nRead more about the event and what to expect during the conference
