SUMMARY:Marine Identity: Atlantic horizons
DESCRIPTION:How does life on the Atlantic edge shape us?  \nStrandhill’s coastline is deeply shaped by the Atlantic — through surf culture\, mythology\, coastal heritage\, wellness\, and evolving ocean economies. This landscape has long connected community identity with the sea\, from local folklore and maritime memory to contemporary surf culture\, ocean therapy\, biodiversity\, and sustainable development. \nAs part of the Shared Island & Ocean\, IOLN’s all-island initiative\, this Strandhill event will create a vibrant community dialogue that explores both the historical roots and future possibilities of this unique coastal region. \nThe morning session will focus on Strandhill’s cultural\, historical\, and marine identity — drawing on storytelling\, lived experience\, surfing heritage\, and coastal knowledge. \nThe afternoon session will examine the future of ocean stewardship through blue health\, community well-being\, inclusion\, biodiversity\, and sustainable regeneration. \nThrough keynote contributors\, panel discussions\, local voices\, and practitioners\, the event will position Strandhill as a model for connecting marine identity with future-focused coastal resilience. \n  \nAgenda \n09:30 – 10:00am: Registration and coffee\n 10:00 – 10:15am: Welcome and Introduction (IOLN)\n 10:15 – 10:45am: Keynote Speaker (Easkey Britton)\n 10:45 – 12:00pm: Panel 1: Currents of the Past\, Voyages of the Future\n 12:00 – 1:15pm: Lunch\, networking\, and exhibitions\n 1:15 – 2:30pm: Panel 2: Waves of Well-being\n 2:30 – 3:30pm: Closing plenary and wrap-up discussion – key takeaways for Strandhill’s ocean future.      \n  \n  \nRegister here. \n  \nExplore the event programme and speaker bios

SUMMARY:8th ICASE World Conference on Science and Technology Education
DESCRIPTION:The 8th ICASE World Conference on Science and Technology Education will take place from 22–25 June 2026 at University College Cork (UCC) — bringing a global community of educators\, researchers\, and policymakers to Ireland. \nThis prestigious international conference\, organised by the International Council of Associations for Science Education (ICASE)\, will explore key themes in science and technology education\, including sustainability\, innovation\, and global collaboration. Among its many strands\, one stands out as particularly significant for Ireland and the IOLN: the Marine Science Education (MSE) Strand. \nA key highlight of the conference will be the launch of the Ocean Literacy: The Foundation for the Success of the Ocean Decade book series\, an endorsed Ocean Decade activity that brings together global expertise on advancing society’s relationship with the ocean. \nThe three-volume\, open-access series — featuring contributions from hundreds of authors across dozens of countries — explores the critical role of Ocean Literacy in transforming education\, research\, community engagement\, and policy\, while supporting the goals of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. \nThe IOLN is featured in Chapter 15 of Volume III of this series. Open Access for this Chapter was funded by the Government of Ireland through the Department of Climate\, Energy and Environment – for which we are very grateful. \nAcross four days\, the Marine Strand will feature: \n\nInspiring keynote presentations from international leaders in Ocean Literacy\nA diverse programme of talks\, lightning presentations\, and poster sessions\nOpportunities to share research\, best practice\, and innovative approaches to marine education\nNetworking and collaboration across sectors and disciplines\n\n  \nA Strong Role for Ireland and IOLN \nAs the conference host country\, Ireland will play a central role in the Marine Strand — and the Irish Ocean Literacy Network (IOLN) is proud to be at the heart of this contribution. \nIOLN members will be actively involved throughout the event\, including: \n\nContributing to keynote sessions and discussions\nSupporting the moderation of strand sessions\nShowcasing Irish initiatives in marine and ocean literacy education\nEngaging with an international audience through presentations and networking\n\n  \nWe are also excited to host an exhibition stand at the conference\, where we will share information about the IOLN and our national network — the work of our Members and showcase our Education Working Group. \n  \nRead more about the event and what to expect during the conference \n  \nRegister here
