Working to Protect Ireland’s Offshore Giants – Will Stapleton

I am fortunate enough to support myself by supporting the ocean. Much of my work involves going offshore, whether with a conservation agency or an offshore wind development, to mitigate impacts on whales and dolphins off our coasts and offshore waters. I have seen Sperm whales, which pop up in logs before diving kilometres deep, as well as our local Shannon estuary dolphin groups and even some bizarre, leaping basking sharks in recent years. In 2 weeks, I’ll be going offshore to ensure no whales or dolphins are disrupted during assessments of the seabed for offshore renewable projects.
