Two Minute Day
Dónal Griffin
Summer cheeks and pink shirt
My first memory shines.
A round hat unlike any worn since
Laps along the creases of my mind.
A two minute day, with Aunt and Uncle.
I trust it an honest recollection.
If not, my minds best sketch of
Small sandals, sea and seagulls
Is surely someone’s.
Somewhere.
Alone in the sand, forehead searing
Eyes searching
Forget memories, my first feeling surges.
Fear then, but fondness now.
For that two minute day,
With Aunt and Uncle.
