Vacancy: Part-time Campaigns Officer (My Ocean)

Salary: €20,000 – €24,000 per annum (FTE €32,000 – €40,000), starting point to be determined based on experience and qualifications.
Since its establishment in 2016 as an informal network, the Irish Ocean Literacy Network (IOLN) has brought together like-minded individuals and organisations who passionately believe in the importance of the seas and oceans to the island of Ireland and its citizens. The aim of the Network is to improve coordination, collaboration and capacity building of the island’s “Ocean Citizens” community, to help achieve a common vision: an Ocean Literate Society across the Island of Ireland. In December 2023, the IOLN was set up as a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG) to support the growth and evolution of the Network and establish a permanent secretariat. The IOLN has an active Board of Directors and currently has two staff members.
The Role: My Ocean Campaign
We are seeking a creative and organised Campaigns Officer (CO) to coordinate ‘My Ocean’ (https://ioln.ie/campaign/), a dynamic, all-Ireland campaign that invites everyone living on or visiting the island of Ireland to explore and express their personal connection to the ocean.
This role involves curating and maintaining a participatory online platform that serves as a living digital archive of Ireland’s ocean heritage, through partnership, collaboration and community outreach. This position also involves assisting the Executive Officer and IOLN team with various aspects of IOLN’s work, including supporting the delivery of key projects, events and membership services.
This role is funded by the Heritage Council under Heritage Organisations Support Fund 2026, reflecting the fixed-term nature of the role. The postholder will support funder reporting and comply with Heritage Council branding and acknowledgement requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Campaign Management
- Lead the coordination of the My Ocean campaign, in collaboration with the Campaigns Working Group.
- Digital Engagement: Manage the My Ocean campaign’s digital platform, overseeing content curation, submissions, and accessibility standards.
- Develop and implement ethical guidelines for the handling of personal stories, content moderation procedures, and accessibility standards for the digital platform with particular attention to submissions from children and vulnerable communities.
- Content Creation: Create multimedia promotions for the campaign. Curate and optimise submissions for publication. Conduct video Vox Pops with attendees at IOLN and external events around Ireland.
- Social Media: Develop monthly thematic prompts and multimedia features to guide public submissions.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Track KPIs, gather stakeholder feedback, and produce evaluation reports and showcases for the IOLN’s annual conference.
- Support impact evaluation by collecting and managing quantitative and qualitative data, ensuring GDPR compliance for all personal submissions, and coordinating with ocean literacy researchers to facilitate academic use of campaign data.
- Partnership Coordination: Collaborate with schools, NGOs, and community organisations (e.g., Green Schools, National Biodiversity Data Centre) to amplify the campaign’s reach.
- Drive engagement through events, partnerships, and digital participation, with a focus on diverse and under-represented voices.
Membership
- Assist with logistics for IOLN events, campaigns, or workshops (both online and offline).
- Support membership programmes and initiatives.
- Represent the IOLN at network events as required (Travel costs and subsistence will be covered by the network where appropriate).
- Reporting -The Campaigns Officer will report on an ongoing basis to the Executive Officer and will also engage with the IOLN Directors and the Campaigns Working group
Required Skills & Experience
- A strong interest in the ocean with a background or employment in marine conservation, cultural/maritime heritage, research and/or recreation.
- Experience engaging with stakeholders, communities, or public audiences, including the ability to adapt messages for different audiences.
- Experience coordinating projects, campaigns, or multi-partner initiatives.
- Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communications, with experience in science communication, marketing, or public-facing campaigns.
- Digital proficiency, including managing website content and social media platforms, with experience creating visual and multimedia content (e.g. Canva/Adobe Express, basic video editing). Basic graphic design and photo editing skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Already be permitted to work in the EU. The successful candidate will need to be resident in Ireland or Northern Ireland.
Personal attributes
- Flexible, adaptable, creative thinker with initiative and drive, able to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable (but not essential) skills and experience:
- Experience with Google Analytics, SEO tools, or social media analytics.
- Working knowledge of the Irish language, with the ability to read or edit content as Gaeilge.
- Have a clean Irish or European Driving Licence and access to their own vehicle.
Remuneration
The gross salary scale for this position is €20,000 to €24,000 (FTE €32,000 – €40,000).
The starting point for the successful candidate will depend on experience and qualifications.
Contract duration will be a 12-month fixed term contract, for 22.5 hours per week, with a three-month probationary period.

- This role is a 100% remote working position. However, it may be possible to provide a hybrid option should the candidate prefer to have a hot desk in a member organisation.
