Based in Skibbereen, Co. Cork, the West Cork Oceans Plastic Project has been working with Transition Year students since 2017 to monitor the health of local shores.
Through this project, students head out to beaches along the West Cork coast to identify and map plastic waste. By surveying everything from microplastics to larger debris, they gain a scientific understanding of where this waste comes from and how it affects the marine environment.
This hands-on approach to citizen science is vital for tracking changes along the coastline and empowering the next generation to lead the way in ocean conservation.
